What is the Village Day? Staged on Bank Holiday Saturday in August every summer since 1997, the Village Day is a celebration of life across the parish of High Littleton and Hallatrow. There’s a real emphasis on traditional entertainment as the event includes all the stalls that you’d expect to find at an English village fete. There’s a mix of competitions, displays and performances as well as refreshments and plenty of fun for all the family.
The Village Day gives us a great way to bring the village together to raise funds for local community groups and organisations. Every penny you spend will benefit local people in one way or another. In the past we’ve donated funds to the Recreation Ground Committee, supported repairs at the Methodist Chapel, donated funds to Bo Peep Pre-School, High Littleton Primary School PTA, as well as organising and funding the ever-popular Over 60s Celebration Tea, staged annually in May.
Joining In Village Day is run by a committee of local residents and is a great way to get to know people and the village. The committee meets monthly from February to August to organise all aspects of the Village Day on a Wednesday at 8pm in the Methodist Church Hall. The committee would love more help and they eagerly encourage new people to come forward with great ideas so that the event stays fresh and can be developed further. If you are interested in joining our friendly committee, please come along to a meeting to see what it is all about or contact the chairman.
Even if you can only spare an hour or two on the day, or help us the evening before to erect the marquees, it would be greatly appreciated. The more people we have to help, the less there is to do :)
